According to national data supplied by MADD, Mothers Against Drunk Drivers, in 2002 17,200 people were killed in crashes involving alcohol, representing a staggering 41% of the almost 43,000 people killed in all traffic crashes

• Binge drinkers accounted for 20% of the US population, but consumed 80% of the alcohol.
• 51% reported not drinking for a month prior and 25% reported drinking once a week or less
• A person dies every 30 minutes in alcohol related crashes.
